A Cup of Cake, Please

Did you know you don't need an oven - or even a pan - to make a chocolate cake? Throw chocolate, butter, flour and some other stuff in a coffee cup. Mix it up, heat it up in the microwave…and voila, you just made a cake! It’s quick, it’s gooey, it’s yummy - and you can eat it all yourself.

Wee Ones: What shape does the top of a coffee cup look like? Can you find 2 other things with that shape?

Little Kids: This mug cake recipe uses 8 ingredients, including cocoa, sugar and chocolate chips. If you have everything you need except baking powder, how many ingredients do you have?
Bonus: If you finally find some baking powder, and also add peanut butter chips, walnuts, and M&Ms, now how many ingredients does your mug cake have?

Big Kids: Your friend can hang out with you for an hour. If you take 5 minutes to mix the cakes and 90 seconds to cook them, how much time do you and your friend have to eat them? (Hint if needed: An hour has 60 minutes, and a minute has 60 seconds.)
Bonus: If your mug holds 8 ounces of cake in it and you eat just 1/4 of it, how many ounces are left for your next snack?

Answers:

Wee Ones: The rim is a circle. Other circles you might find include buttons, clock faces, and other cups and bowls.

Little Kids: 7 ingredients.
Bonus: 11 ingredients.

Big Kids: 53 minutes 30 seconds. You took 6 1/2 minutes to make the cakes, so that brings us down to 54 minutes, then down another 1/2 minute.
Bonus: 6 ounces, because you ate 2 ounces.
