Stanford has a new basketball team, and you want to be their mascot! What animal should the mascot be? You want to dress up as a Red Wolf, but Jess has a better idea: how about a Purple Spider? Both mascots show up at the game…let’s see who revs up the crowd the most!

Bird mascots have floofy wings. Flap your arms like a bird 7 times and count your flaps out loud!

The Purple Spider does 17 somersaults while the Red Wolf does 12 cartwheels. Who does more moves?

If Purple Spider does 7 pushups in the first timeout to pump up the crowd, and 14 in the second timeout, how many does the mascot do in the 3^{rd}, 4^{th}, 5^{th}, and 6^{th} timeouts to continue that plus-7 pattern?

Red Wolf isn’t going to be outdone – they do front flips the whole way around the rectangular field, which is 100 feet long and 60 feet wide. How far does __the Wolf flip? __

Purple Spider pulls out the secret weapon: the t-shirt cannon. If the Spider launches 24 t-shirts into the crowd of 384 people, what fraction of the crowd gets a t-shirt? (Assume no crowd member caught more than 1 t-shirt!)

Count those wing flaps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7!

The Purple Spider.

21, 28, 35, and 42 pushups.

320 feet of flipping.

1/16 of the crowd gets a t-shirt, because 384 divided by 24 equals 16.
